African pygmy mice. ( Mus minutoides)

I also breed African pygmy mice. They are tiny approx 4 centimetres including the tail, until you see one in the flesh it is impossible to explain to people just how tiny they are. I sell them in same sex pairs as I have found them to be very tolerant of each other, however there are reports on the internet that pygmy mice can fight. I keep my pygmys in family groups and sell either a pair of brothers or sisters.

I have found they are very easy to keep, a small plastic case is ample space, sawdust, a twig or loo roll inner to climb on and something small to provide a house. I use small bird accessories such as nesting basket. It is essential to have the smallest wire or very small ventilation holes.

If their home is plastic they will chew it so it is vital to check them regularly. Always make sure the lid is shut tight, THEY WILL ESCAPE!! They are reasonably easy to catch, a 2 litre plastic bottle placed at an angle with food in the bottom and a means for them to climb up has always caught mine.

My mice are trained to drink from a water bottle and eat a mixture of canary and foreign finch seed. I give them millet twigs as well and they climb on them which is delightful.

Please feel free to contact me if you would be interested in my mice.
